Clifton Springs/Newark Mrs. Jane H. Drake age 94 died on Friday February 29, 2008 at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic extended care unit.

Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Monday March 3, 2008 at 4 PM at the Clifton Springs United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.

It is suggested that in memory of Mrs. Drake memorial contributions be made to the National Dance Institute Star Child Program 594 Broadway Room 805 New York, N.Y. 10012.

Mrs. Drake was born on March 16, 1913 in Frostburg,MD the only child of Herman and Louise Cather Hesse. Her father was a mining engineer employed by Consolidated Coal Co.

She graduated from Stevens High, Lancaster PA in 1931. She enrolled at West Virginia University majoring in Physical Education. In her Freshman year she was inducted into Orchesis, National Dance Club. She graduated in 1935.

Mrs. Drake went on to teach at Allegany High from 1935-1939. She began her Masters degree in 1937 at NYU.

She taught at Potomac State College in Keyser West Virginia from 1939-1943 and also taught at Montclair State College in New Jersey.

In June 1941 she married her husband Bernard Richard Drake.

She loved to travel, and spent winters in Green Valley AZ for several years. Mrs. Drake traveled to Greece, Turkey, Ireland, England, Mexico and Alaska. Her love of music and dance brought joy to others through out her life.

Mrs. Drake was involved with the Girl Scouts of America, League of Women Voters and several YWCA programs.

She lived with her daughter for 1 1/2 years prior to entering the Nursing Home at Clifton Springs Hospital. She was a dear and loyal friend to many and will be sadly missed by her family.

Mrs. Drake is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Bernard R. Drake of Newark.

Her daughter Allison D. (Thomas) Paul of Newark

Grandson Brett D. Beynon of Newark.

Funeral arrangements have been made by the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps.
