Clifton Springs, Francis J. Van Opdorp age 72, died on Christmas Day (December 25, 2006) at the House of John after many months of Illness.

Friends may call on Thursday (Dec. 28) from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at The Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10Am in St. Felix Catholic Church in Clifton Springs. Burial will be in St. Agnes Cemetery, Clifton Springs.

Franny was born on February 24, 1934 in Clifton Springs, the son of the late Joseph and Marie Landschoot Van Opdorp. For most of his career Franny operated the Van Opdorp Farm, located on Silver Street in Clifton Springs. Initially the operation was a partnership withhis brother Richard. Upon Richards departure from the business, Francis’s sons James and Eugene joined the business.

Upon his retirement from farming, he embarked on a new career as a Real Estate Broker. As well as working with several associates, he owned and operated the Francis Van Opdorp Realty.

His favorite hobby was attending basketball games in local high schools, particularly those at Midlakes. He also served on several farm/business committees in Clifton Springs, Phelps and Manchester. He was also a lifetime member of St. Felix Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sara Jane (Love) Van Opdorp 2 sons James and Eugene (Caren) Van Opdorp parents of Brandon and Kimberly.) 2 daughters Theresa (David) Schlossnagle and Janice Van Opdorp.

He is also survived by his brother Richard (Joyce) Van Opdorp and their children Joe (Sherri) Van Opdorp and Linda (Jeff) Lapresi as well as his predeceased sister’s (Marie Van Opdorp Rogers) children Ann, Joe, and Kelly Rogers and their respective children.
