Phelps,
Joan E. Cockett, passed away on Tuesday (Dec. 19,2006)
at the age of 75 surrounded by her loving family.
Survived by her sons Curt, Kevin, Brett and Brian.
Daughter Nancy ; Grandchildren Brad and Jessica; many
cousins and good friends. She was preceded in death by
her husband Kenneth Cockett.
Joan was born June, 11, 1931 in Penn Yan. Beloved
daughter of the late Alfred J. “Jack” and Jessie
Crawford Canfield. She was a graduate of Phelps
Central School in 1949 and the Freeman Business School
of Geneva in 1951. During her lifetime Joan was
employed by C.W. Stuart, Carolyn Emmons and Sarah
Coventry of Newark. She also worked for HEP Sales in
Waterloo and retired from Mobil/Express Mart of Phelps
in 2004 at the age of 73.
She was a member of the United Church of Phelps,
and an over 50 year member and past officer of Royal
Garoga Chapter Order of the Eastern Star. Joan was a
former volunteer at the Phelps Memorial Community
Library.
Friends may call on Friday from 4-7PM at the Cheney
Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. Funeral services
will be held on Saturday Dec. 23 at 10AM in the
funeral home. Interment will be held at the
convenience of the family in Resthaven Cemetery.
