Phelps, Richard F. Atkinson Sr. 79 of of 230 Main Street Entered into eternal peace on Wednesday (January 18) at the Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.

Friends may call on Monday from 12PM -2PM at the Cheney Funeral Home 70 Main Street Phelps. Funeral services will follow at 2PM with the Rev. Lynn Spence officiating.

Mr. Atkinson was born on June 6, 1926 in Geneva, NY the son of the late Fred and Stella Sindinski Atkinson. He retired in 1982 from the American Can Co. in Geneva after 38 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines serving in both WWII and the Korean Conflict. Mr Atkinson was a member of Phelps American Legion and a liftetime member of the Newark VFW and former member of the Geneva VFW rifle squad. He was a member of the Buckhorn Sportsmans club and the HillTop Gun Club. He was also a member of Local Union 1838 UAW. Mr. Atkinson enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and cooking game dinners.

He was preceded in death by his wife Esther M. Atkinson who died in 2001 Son Richie who died in April 2005.Brothers Arthur and Fred and sister Mary Piergrosso.
