Clifton Springs/Seneca Castle, Mrs.
Betty M. Tennant 73 of 2845 Seneca Castle-Orleans Road
went to be with the Lord after a long fight with
cancer Thursday April 21, 2005 at her home surrounded
by her family.
Friends may call on Monday (April 25)
from 6-9 Pm at the Seneca Castle United Methodist
Church. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 10-11Am
followed by funeral services at 11 A.M. with Rev. Babs
Steinert officiating. Private family burial will be in
Whitney Cemetery.
Betty was born October 8, 1931 in
Savannah, NY the daughter of Julius and Freda Klossner
Umiker.
She graduated from Geneva High School
in 1949, Auburn Community College in 1968 and William
Smith College in 1970.
Betty retired from Newark Central
School where she taught English and German. For
several years while she was teaching and many years
after she retired, she was very involved with student
exchange programs to Germany.
Betty was a member of the Seneca
Castle United Methodist since 1957. She taught Sunday
school for many years and served on many committees.
The Outreach committee was very special to Betty. She
also served as a Lay Leader and was an active Lay
Speaker.
Betty worked as a volunteer for the
Red Cross in the Blood Donor Program.
She was an avid knitter, donating her
many hand knitted baby sweaters, hats, and mittens, to
children in need. She also knitted 77 rainbow sweaters
for Walk to Emmaus friends.

She is survived by her loving husband
of 55 years James D. Tennant of Seneca Castle
